Clarissa Perez has been a dedicated painter for over ten years and is a Senior art student at UTRGV. Clarissa has had her paintings sold and for display in galleries, and is soon to be featured in Gallery magazine. Clarissa is also an art instructor for Creative Arts Studio where she shares her knowledge in painting and drawing with young artists.

Daniel Blue Tyx

Daniel Blue Tyx is a freelance journalist, essayist, and fiction writer. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from Purdue University, and his writing has appeared in publications including the Oxford American, the Texas Observer, Texas Highways, and Best American Travel Writing.

Frank Martinez

Francisco Martinez was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He grew up in a small, rural town along with his eight brothers and four sisters. At the age of nine Francisco migrated to Edinburg, Texas a town located in the lower Rio Grande Valley. He has lived in Edinburg since then.
Francisco graduated from the University of Texas Pan American with a degree in Graphic Design. He frequently uses studio art to create digital art. His deep Mexican roots inspire him to use a multitude of colors and media for his work. Francisco works as a free-lance artist and graphic designer while teaching private art classes.

Jorge Luis Sanchez

Jorge Luis Sanchez is the founder of the biggest salsa community in the RGV called “Salsa con Son.” He has participated as a guest instructor at the International Monterrey Salsa & Bachata Congress, RGV Latin Dance Festival and BKS Texas. Mr. Sanchez continues to be a guest instructor at Havana Bar & Grill as well as in other events around Texas and Mexico.

Julieta Corpus

Julieta Corpus’ work has been included in various poetry compilations, such as Writing to Be Heard: Voices from the Chicho, STC’s Interstice, and four Valley International Poetry Festival Boundless Anthologies, The Thing Itself, and the Texas Poetry Calendar. Her latest pride and joy is a compact disc titled: Corazon Parlante, a compilation of twelve love poems with musical accompaniment by local musician Mario Mora from Dulce Toxico. She completed her MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Texas Rio Grande in May 2016. Julieta is a bilingual translator and hosts poetry events throughout the Rio Grande Valley since 2009.

Lian Cheng Shingler

Lian Cheng Shingler is from China. She is a graduate of Chongqing Normal University and Shenzhen University in China. Ms. Shingler is a Dancer, Magician, Artist(Embroidery), Fitness and Martial arts, Tai chi Yoga instructor. Ms. Lian holds Certificates as a Fitness, Martial arts and Dance instructor.
She has received many awards for organizing and promoting Chinese culture. Ms. Shingler also manages the Asian Culture Company in McAllen, Texas.

Marie Antoinette Canales

Marie Antoinette Canales is a master calligrapher, illustrator, caricaturist, artist, and instructor. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art and Advertising at the University of Texas-Pan American (now UTRGV) and her Master of Arts degree in Illustration at Syracuse University in New York. She studied calligraphy in Belgium with calligraphers to The Queen of England. Marie’s calligraphic works are in personal collections worldwide and The White House. Marie has taught at UT-PA, South Texas College; for major corporations, educators, museum groups and privately since 1985 in Texas, Washington D.C., and Italy. She has written two calligraphy books. Marie’s teaching philosophy is that “desire is more important than talent. If you have the desire to learn something, you will”. Canales designs classes that help to develop your artistic ability, inspire creativity and encourage the use of a new marketable skill.

Viviana Caballero

I was taught how to embroider and hand sew by my mother since I was 10 years old and I have always enjoyed it. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. I have participated as an artist in the exhibit “100 Women, 100 Words” curated by The South Texas College Art Department and Library Art Gallery.
